Investigation of Salt and Nitrogen Distribution under Belt Plastic Film Mulching in Surface- and Drip-Irrigated Maize Field in Hetao Irrigation District

Hetao Irrigation District (HID) is one of the main regions for maize and sunflower production in North China. However, water resource shortages soil salinization greatly limit production. The surface irrigation method HID; however, now, plastic mulching drip area increasing to reduce enhance crop yield. In this study, water, salt, nitrogen contents at 0–100 cm layer under non-mulching conditions with irrigation—fertilizer broadcast practice fertigation were investigated elongation maturation stages 2021 2022 seasons. results show that methods influenced salt ionic (NO3− NH4+) distributions and, ultimately, Mulching reduced content 0–20 by a mean 35.7% 18.6% condition. NO3− system was approximately 8 times higher than out mulching. However condition, 8–10 lower distributed uniformly each deeper 40 depth, indicating minor effects NH4+ decreased as depth increased layer, insignificant influence practice. As result, yield drip-mulching condition 11% (10.6~11.4%) surface-mulching two Given currently primary (HID), we have proposed three approaches aimed enhancing through improvement levels practices.
